Psychomotor Therapy is a holistic type of body psychotherapy. It’s based on the mind/body connection and allows you to:
Heal the root causes of emotional, mental and physical pain & imbalances
Make soul deep peace with your body
Improve your relationship with your body, yourself and everyone around you
Psychomotor Therapy aims to nourish the nervous system, assists the client in deep physical, psychological and relational healing and provides tools for an increased body awareness. This is done through three different modalities: counselling, manual therapy and specifically tailored exercises. Together these elements make up the core of a Psychomotor Therapy session.
Through manual treatment (bodywork) the client is able to release tension of the body. The autonomic nervous system is assisted in expanding its level of functioning, stress levels drop and oxytocin is released. Oxytocin helps reduce anxiety levels, aids in healing and supports a state of relaxation and well-being. The manual treatment is directed at balancing the elasticity of the client’s connective tissue and muscles, which can result in pain relief and tension release. The manual treatment helps the client to strengthen their body awareness through a deepened sensory connection to the body and an increased alertness to body cues, which in turn regulates anxiety and stress. The verbalization process, which is part of the manual treatment, helps the client integrate their experiences, strengthen their mind/body connection and gain awareness of limiting beliefs, experiences and behaviours.
